Tone

1.       What is the author’s attitude towards actions or events?

I think the author wants the reader to learn from Gillian, many things about Gillian could be learn like for example how bad he used to live before he get the thousand dollars and his life after he have the thousand dollars and how he spend it.

2.       Is the story humorous or tragic or frightening? Does the author want you to laugh or cry, to feel happy or sad, and to experience anger or fear?

For me the story is quite tragic and the author maybe wants us to get the experience of the people in the story not that to make us happy or sad but he really wants us to learn from Gillian mistakes.

3.       What is the author’s attitude toward characters or the narrator? Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator.

The attitude of the narrator to the character I think it would be pity, the author did not really dislike the characters but I think he wouldn’t trust what the characters think, but for the narrator I think is the opposite.  

Symbol

1.       What are some of the symbols in the story?

   In this story One thousand dollars there are many symbol for example the money and the blind men selling the pencil.

2.       Are there any objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?

   If I were to choose one thing that would be money, money is the main conflict in this story. The meaning of it basically means richness but in this story it is how to spend the money wisely as a wise man living on earth not wasting on things like gambling. Money can change the way people act and react towards things. The paper bill can completely change people from back to forth.

3.       Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?

   I think everyone in the story have the symbol of its own like the main character Gillian represent the people who are gangster they are bad they like to gamble and waste money, for Hayden she represent the quietness I does not know what she thinks and how she act at all. Two layers represent Gillian uncle.

4.       Do aspects of the story’s setting seem symbolic? In what way?

   Yes the aspects of the story shows a lot of symbol they are many character as the represented symbol or even the conflict of the story shows some symbol to the readers.

5.       Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?

   Mainly one symbol is represented in the story but there are more of the symbol added while the story goes on.

               There are basically two scenes that I really like, the scene that Gillian met the blind man selling things and is the first twist of the story because it had change the way he think about using the money, and another one is the scene that he propose to Hayden.

                The image that he proposed to Hayden makes me happy because it is something like a love that had been kept for long and finally he announces it.

                 I think two of my senses are used here which is sight and hearing, I could see and hear talking in my head and I could feel the scenes were true. The author of course wants the reader to enjoy what he wrote and feels the he have written.

I think my imagery to the story gives me the story point of view it shows me the story in my head and it help me to relate to the story more and because of that I understand the story more.

2.       What are the advantages of the chosen point of view? Does it furnish any clues as to the purpose of the story?

I think that the advantage of using the third point of view we could see the story in another person point of view we know the good and bad deeds of the main character. If it was first person no such human will come and say they are bad so it gives clues more about the story!

3.       Is the narrator reliable or unreliable? Does he have a limited knowledge or understanding of characters and events in the story? Does the narrator know almost everything about one character or every character, including inner thoughts?

I think the narrator know the story well. He has a limited knowledge about the characters and events in the story, he kind of know everything and he explained the story well. He usually knows more about Gillian than other people.

4.       Does the author use point of view primarily to reveal or conceal? Does he ever unfairly withhold important information known to the focal character?

Yes, he use point of view to tell the story and reveal the conflict and problem of the story, I think he did hold only one information that at the end of the story I still does not know about it, it is that the feeling of Hayden towards the main character it is still a misery for me.

Character

1.       Who is the main character of the story/ what does the main character look like?

The main character of the story is Young Gillian, he look like a French guy from the renaissance period.

2.       Describe the main character’s situation. Where does he/she live? Does he/she live alone or with others? What does the main character do for a living, or is he/she dependent on others for support?

He has a rich uncle and lives alone with himself but was give the opportunities to earn over 50,000 dollars from his uncle. He gambles for living. He actually depends on other for supports.

3.       What are some of the chief characteristics of the character? How these characteristics are revealing in the story? How does the main character interact with other characters? Not the degree of complexity of his or her behavior, thought, and feelings; their appearances, their habits, mannerisms, speech attitudes and values. What is the main character’s attitude towards his/her life? Is he/she happy or sad, content, or discontented? Why?

His characteristics was a bad man, he is wasted he gamble and does not live like a good kid! The characteristic was told by the lawyer to him from the uncle. He acts normally with other not that bad but kind a confused and asking other how should he spend the money.  He just wastes his life by doing bad things and don’t care about his future. He is of course happy by what he does but after knowing that he will get money if he improve himself then he is in a serious mode.

4.       What sort of conflict is the character facing? How is this conflict revealed? Is it resolved? If so how?

The conflict he is facing is the conflict that he have to change his life by using money properly, in his entire life he never manage to make a good use of his money but today he need to manage his money properly so it is a great problem for him. The conflict was reveal by the lawyer from his uncle demand. The problem was solved but in the wrong way, he gave all his money to his love one, but decides to lie to the lawyer because he was scared that the lawyer would give all the left over money to his love one alone.       

5.       Is any character a developing character? If so, is his change a large or a small one? Is it a plausible cange for him he sufficiently motivated? Is the change given sufficient time?

Yes, it is our main character Gillian, his changed kind of twist the story. The change he causes is a abrupt change so it gives the reader kind of a little heart attack. 

Setting.

1. The story happen in the city, the city is a large city. This story has many scenes which happen both in the house which is indoors and happen outdoors.

2. This story happens in the 1900s century.  It has not mention the day, month or the season, but it definitely happens in the morning or afternoon but not at night.

3. The social class of the environment is both poor and medium class not high class, he met a pencil seller and was also blind he is kind of poor-medium class and the lawyers of his grandfather was also medium class, his grandfather was in the high class I can say, the girl he love which is Hayden is also in the medium class. The events of the story have mix between classes and it happens through the situation of the stories some many of the social classes appears along the stories.

Plot

1.       This story is about a young man, who is very spoiled. He lives his live gambling. His uncle dies and he inherits 51,000 dolls. He just knows about 1,000 dollars though. His uncle decides to test him, if he spends it responsibly, he will receive the other 50k, but if he doesn't it will be left to another lady whom he loves. After he knows about the other money he decides to give her everything by lying and saying he wasted all the money gambling.

2.       They are arranged chronologically.

3.       The story is narrated normally like normally story no flashback but it’s kind of instruction to what to do

4.       I think it is a face paced because the story could be long but in the book it was very short.

5.       First  the character was confused of how to use the money he was in a dilemma, if he use it wrongly then he won’t get the rest of the money, so he ask question to many of the people of how to use the money they all gave him different answer. His thoughts change as the story went by.

6.       The conflict of the plot is the love the main character have for Hayden and the way he must know how to spend the money correctly. It is a emotional and moral conflict. Yes, at last the problem is solved but in the wrong way so it creates another problem for him. At first he does not know how to spend the money until He decided to go to Hayden he loved her and gave her $1000. Miss Hayden refused his love but accepted his money. And then he wrote an account which showed how he spent $1000. He went telling the lawyer but the lawyer said if he uses it wrongly then they won’t give him the rest of the money and the money will be given to Miss Hayden. He tarred the paper because he knew Miss Hayden will get the money. The main character went from a guy who loves to gamble to a guy who starts to think how to spend money, but the love for him to Miss Hayden just changed so it’s a conflict between good and evil.

7.       I think that the climax of the story is the part he met a blind man when he get of the taxi and decide to confess and give all the thousands dollars to Hayden. The story climax of the story happens almost at the end of the story.

8.        Yes all plots are unite together, and they are all match up together, the parts are not mix and basically clear.

9.       The chance and coincidence that the main character have met with the blind guy just twisted the story, when he met him he decides to do something that people think he won’t, that is giving all the thousands dollar he have to the one he loved. It absolutely revolves the story and it’s kind of weird seeing the end of the story twisted. It is kind of improbable that he gave up everything he have and at the end he just hate the girl he love
